My Personal Story

My Personal Story

Id like to start off by asking a few questions to feed your thoughts as you read this.
Do you want the ability to travel to places you never have been?

Do you feel like you have more to offer this world?

Have you ever been frustrated with your job and how you have been treated?

Do you want a better life for yourself, friends and family?

Have any of these thoughts entered into your mind? (I know they have mine)

I'm going to start by introducing myself and my story. My name is Nathan Byrd and I am activist in  helping others live a more balanced lifestyle by being healthy, active, and financially free. Adversity will always come our way but if we are mentally prepared and expect there to be difficulties with life we can make it through. I want to start by sharing where I come from, and what has shaped me into who I am today.

I came from a hardworking middle-class family my mother being a nurse and my father working many different jobs from a grocery store manager, to repairing bicycles, to even opening his own frame shop and managing his own business. I noticed the difference fairly quick between my mother and father someone who went to college and had a steady job to someone who was always thinking outside the box and finding different ways of making money by running his own businesses. My adventurous side eventually chose the second option, to become my own boss and to help others live the same life. The freedom of not having to punch in and punch out, and the freedom of having time to spend with loved through shared activities such as birthdays, weddings, vacations, etc is an amazing blessing. You only live one life, what will you make of it?

As a young kid we moved quite a bit, helping  me become easily adaptable to uncomfortable situations such as meeting new people, going to new schools and not knowing our surroundings. I really enjoyed the fact that we were able to travel and meet new people. Positive relationships are what makes this world a wonderful place to live and I believe is why I am on this earth, to empower people to stay motivated and to love others.

Playing sports and being active was something as a family, we would always do, from hiking, running, biking, bowling, basketball, soccer, baseball and football we were all very active. My siblings didn't really have the competitive nature that grow deep within me. Being competitive and wanting to win in everything I did quickly became part of my DNA. Being very competitive with basketball, I went on to earn multiple accolades and honors in high school and receive a scholarship to play college basketball, (something I had dreamed of since I was in middle school). Playing basketball taught me an abundance about life, teamwork, adversity and goal setting. The years I played were great, from the roads trips, to the packed out home games it was an experience I would never forget.

Through years of being active I have faced my share of adversity, being in the form of injuries. The most substantial injury I sustained was a broken wrist during the summer of my third year of college ball. This drastically changed the course of my focus and helped to shape me into a more well rounded individual.

This season of my life changed everything drastically. All my plans up to this point were to be a fitness trainer and to further my basketball career to the professional level.  Breaking my wrist was a major turning point in my life. As you know now, I am a very competitive person and would not let adversity bring me down, I turned my focus to business. I joined the local Chamber of Commerce and began to network and meet different people in the sales industry. Joining the Chamber did get me out of my comfort zone and forced me to meet people I would have never met before.

Next, I started working in sales, selling cell phones, learning the tricks of the trade by a gentlemen named Mike Smith. This is where my passion for business started to develop, how to work with people, how to show integrity, to overcome objections, how to follow-up, and much more. I couldn't get enough of the sales industry, the ability to provide people with solutions to their problems was exactly the profession for me!
After reaching the rank of top sales associate of the Northwest Region I started to ask myself, is this what I really want out of life? Is this what I am passionate about? Why am I building someone's dream instead of my own dreams?
There had been several incidents that made me question why I was still working at T-mobile but I still continued to work hard, until one day. December 24th.
T-mobile and many other retail stores have specific blackout dates you cannot request time off. Knowing this to be true, it was extremely frustrating as I was unable to take time off to visit my family for Christmas. Family to me is everything and this situation really hurt. I had had enough, this was the moment I devised a plan to search after my passions and find a way to create the future I always wanted. I was getting fed up of corporate america's grasp on my life and was ready to take on another challenge. Does any of this story connect with you?

This is when I found Shaklee. A company that connected with my passions to help others through health and wellness, meet new people, create life long relationships, and to help motivate others to live the best life they can.
